@JonahDispatch It’s not just that seeing your opponent lose is a source of joy - for many it is their principal source of joy - maybe their only source of joy. There is something rather nihilistic about that being more important than your own accomplishments.
@JonahDispatch Haven’t read it yet, but the ironic thing is that both of the extreme sides have very similar ideas on how government should work. Yet they only live and operate to see the other side suffer.

@JonahDispatch The Kobayashi Maru test assumes that the players in the strategic interaction are allowed to opt out of it. The only way to win the game is not to play. However, many times opting out is not an option. Incentives and institutions are aligned for highly competitive interaction.
