Musicians don't make money from their music anymore, the big money is in touring. If you say something they don't like, they won't let you perform in public. "If you want to be a profitable recording artist in America, you can't offend [redacted]."

Fan Commentary: Joe Rogan Recaps @JoeRoganRecaps

🚨NEW: Joe Rogan sits down with California governor candidate Steve Hilton and shatters the myths surrounding depression, gives the real blueprint for healing your mental health, and explains why he believes you should avoid SSRIs and antidepressants: CONTEXT: Rogan is right about one important piece of this debate. A major umbrella review of serotonin research found no consistent evidence that depression is caused by simply having too little serotonin, undercutting the old “chemical imbalance” explanation that became embedded in popular culture. But that does not mean antidepressants have been proven useless. A massive analysis covering 522 clinical trials and 116,477 patients found all 21 antidepressants studied were more effective than placebo for acute major depression. And medication use is widespread: CDC data shows 11.4% of U.S. adults took prescription medication for depression in 2023 which is more than 1 in 10 adults. ROGAN: “There’s a lot of people in Los Angeles that are heavily medicated and stuck in this zombie like state of thinking. I think that’s what makes them agree to all these horrible policies.” “There’s probably a few million people taking this stuff in LA. I know A LOT of people who are on them.” HILTON: “We’ve over medicated the population. It’s really bad.” ROGAN: “The chemical imbalance thing has been disproven. It’s not real. That’s not what’s causing your depression.” “If you live a sedentary lifestyle and eat terrible food your physical body is going to feel like sh*t and you’re not going to be happy. That’s just how it works as a human being.” MAIN TAKEAWAY: There’s another piece of the story that deserves much more attention: A 2024 BMJ analysis looked at 218 randomized studies involving more than 14,000 people with depression and found meaningful improvements from exercise which included walking/jogging, yoga and strength training among the strongest performers. Researchers concluded exercise should be considered alongside psychotherapy and antidepressants as a core treatment option. So the most defensible takeaway isn’t “throw away antidepressants.” It’s that depression is far more complicated than the old story of “your serotonin is low, so take a pill.” Medication can help some people. Exercise can help. Therapy can help. Sleep, diet, relationships and environment can matter. The real mistake may have been convincing millions of people that one of the most complicated problems in the human brain had one simple chemical explanation.
