Yesterday, Missouri voters rejected a sales tax increase to fund stadiums for the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. 58% voted no. Finally. Voters are wising up? Great. Taxpayers shouldn't fund tycoons’ sports teams. Let them pay their own way:
@JohnStossel When ABQ voters rejected the stadium, the politicians just enacted a law and built it anyway. Keep watching them.
You used to hear the same argument about the Olympics. Now, it's tougher (especially for the Winter Games) to get host. Look at pictures of the 1980 Winter games in Lake Placid, compared to Sochi or Japan recently. Also, many times the last newer stadium taxpayers funded isn't paid off before the new one is built.
@JohnStossel This is one of the biggest scam in my lifetime. Pro teams jumping to different cities to get tax breaks and new taxpayer arenas is obscene.
@JohnStossel At least they had a chance to vote! In New York State, we are being forced to pay for a stadium for a multibillionaire ! NO VOTE!
@JohnStossel Kcmo residents also voted down the trolly but the government did it anyway.
@JohnStossel Washington voters rejected stadium bills in the ~90s. Legislators stole our $ and funded them anyway.
@JohnStossel Right! The NFL can help out their teams with this with all the money made on TV deals. Ridiculous to make taxpayers, whom most don’t even attend games, to pay for a stadium that charges them $100s of dollars for tickets & $20 dollars for beer.
