I love the concept of personal branding for the same reason I love filmmaking:
Nothing I've ever done or learned in life will go to waste.
It's a wonderful feeling to know that truth.
A wife of a mentor told me her guilty pleasure film is Interview with the Vampire.
I never considered that film to be one.
But in hindsight that makes total sense.
The best filmmakers are known for specific qualities in their work:
• Denis Villeneuve – high concept, sci-fi
• Christopher Nolan – high concept, practical effects
• Quentin Tarantino - violence, fun dialogue, revisionist history
In other words – personal brands
To get cinematic footage on your phone you have to hide the camera's limitations.
Example: Avoid filming subjects against a window on a sunny day.
Most phones can't show details that bright and create those dreaded blown out highlights.
IGTV flopped because the idea didn't match how people use their phones.
Phones are for quick content.
Quick content → vertical screens.
Long form content → wide screens.
Going the opposite way of your product's best qualities leads to failure.
A great problem in your life + how you solved them + what you learned = a great story.
At least one worth reading.
And maybe even watching.
Depends on how you live life.
I had a "quarter-life crisis" – when I was a teenager.
There were no crazy problems. I count my blessings:
- I got into a good prep school.
- Had quality friends.
- Had fun hobbies.
But when I looked to the future, there was one issue:
I didn't know what I was working…
Can persuasive writing techniques apply to photos?
- Telling a personal story
- Giving valuable information
- Using a hook (visuals that capture attention)
It's a thought I've been having – persuasive principles carry over into every medium.

If something brings you joy and doesn't harm others, don't listen to the self-improvement gurus who label it as “bad”.
Go watch YouTube videos with your friends, eat a cheeseburger or spend the afternoon napping.
If that’s what floats your boat, float it.
Balance is key.
The best periods of my life always came after a period of getting absolutely fed up with the lack of progress I was making.
A thread on seamless self-discipline:
@JoeSoon08@DiscussingFilm They do a great explanation in the bonus features. The decision to make it the start of the movie really helps the audience to understand Marlin’s character from the start rather than finding out later in the movie.
I don't know what I'm doing.
I’m just some normal dude.
But, you know what’s crazy?
I now make $2k/month writing tweets
How on earth did I get here?
I started out just like everyone else.
Got sold the dream by Dan Koe.
"Make millions by tweeting."
Seemed too good to be…
What are commercial auditions like? Ok, imagine walking into a lobby, something feels a little… off. Then you slowly start to realize every single guy there looks like a carbon copy of Thomas Middleditch. It’s like a horror movie sponsored by New Balance and very skinny jeans.

I want to QUIT
Go back to life before:
→ Never taking action
→ Live life on autopilot
→ Do nothing with knowledge
But I remember, in 4 months:
→ Nearly 1600 followers
→ $5600+ of WIFI money
→ Helping 11 clients change their lives
All because I didn't quit.
Keep going
A simple idea I can't stop thinking about:
We all have:
1. Knowledge
2. Experience
3. Skills
But we're so convinced that our knowledge is as common as knowing how to tie your shoes.
It isn't.
I've seen thousands of people trying to learn things that so many of us take for…
