BREAKING: The NBA has given Jontay Porter a lifetime ban for violating the league's gambling rules. The NBA says he "disclosed confidential information to sports bettors, limiting his own participation in one or more games for betting purposes." The NBA had no other choice.
The NBA says: • Porter gave information to a bettor who placed an $80,000 parlay. The bet would have won $1.1 million but was frozen by the sportsbook for unusual activity. • Porter also bet $54,094 on 13 NBA games using an associate account. The bets ranged in size from $15 to $22,000, resulting in net winnings of $21,965. • Porter never bet on games he was playing, but he bet on the Raptors (his team) to lose.
@JoePompliano As long as they throw a star out that gets caught too then no issue at all with decision. No room for double standards
@JoePompliano Interestingly, gambling issues in the NBA are rare, with Porter’s case being one of just a handful that led to severe penalties.
@JoePompliano I hope he bagged 💰 a ton of parlays while he had the inside scoop (himself) 🤷♂️ 🤦♂️
