So compulsory ID for voting isn't enough for this government. They've stopped universities registering freshers to vote, en masse. Older people can use their travel cards as ID, young people can't. This is cynical manipulation of the electorate and deeply undemocratic.
@JoanneB10178842 what do you mean "stopped them registering en masse"
@JoanneB10178842 Lots of students have voted twice, once at their home address and once at their student address.
@JoanneB10178842 Nothing undemocratic about preventing the ability to exploit the system and cheat. Remember students voting twice debacle?
@JoanneB10178842 Surely there isn’t a student who doesn’t have a form of ID bearing in mind most of them have just turned 18 and will be spending their lives in pubs and clubs for at least one week of their year!
@JoanneB10178842 I am.deeply suspicious of any form of voting which does not require the voter to turn up at a polling station on the day. It leaves too much scope for corruption.
@JoanneB10178842 They all manage ID for a pint
@JoanneB10178842 I went to a horticultural college over 30 years ago. Most students lived in or rented nearby. The college didn't register us all to vote, we did this ourselves, if suffiently interested. This didn't appear to present any particular problems.
@JoanneB10178842 Voter Authority Certificate can be issued
