Talking about Kate Middleton is a means of talking about a great many things. It's fine. But 4 of the 10 op-eds featured on NYT right now are about Kate Middleton. That, I think, indicates not just talking about all sorts of things but avoiding talking about all sorts of things.
@JeffSharlet Didn't America have a revolution so they wouldn't have to talk about princes and princesses?
@JeffSharlet Yes! So on point!
@JeffSharlet It's becoming an Arthurian saga of sorts, with Middleton as a sort of middle-class Guinevere.
@JeffSharlet The American people are not serious people. Reminded of this constantly.
@JeffSharlet There are two (maybe three) big stories right now, and Middleton ain't one of them. 1) The terrorist attack in Moscow 2) The budget (details) moving through congress. 3) Defendant Trump's struggle to come up with enough cash to satisfy the judgment before Monday. YMMV.
@JeffSharlet Talking head space does seem a bit zero sum.
@JeffSharlet As an Englishwoman, it grates me that people still get her name wrong. Her name is Catherine, Princess of Wales. She's not been 'Middleton' for 13. It's like people who intentionally get a President's or politicians name wrong too; disrespectful.
