Holding onto anger and resentment is like scuba diving with an anchor. As long as you're clinging to it, you're bound to the seabed, limited in movement, unable to appreciate the coral reefs and the colorful fish that dart in and out of view. Forgiveness is letting go of the anchor. It isn't about declaring what was done to you is okay, but about unburdening yourself so you can swim freely. Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself. It's the gift of letting go of the anchors you've been carrying.
This idea is from today's edition of my 3-2-1 Thursday newsletter. Each one features 3 short ideas from me, 2 quotes from others, and 1 question for you to ponder. You can see more of today's newsletter (and sign up to get it in your inbox) at jamesclear.com/3-2-1
Holding onto anger and resentment is like trying to fly with a backpack full of bricks. It weighs you down, making it nearly impossible to spread your wings and soar. Forgiveness is the act of tossing those bricks aside, allowing you to take flight and explore the vast expanse of the sky above, unencumbered by the weight of the past. Be Outstanding🔥

@JamesClear All forgiveness is self-forgiveness.
Stop resisting, fighting, struggling to remove the anchor...all you need to do is to see and allow it to be and it will slowly loosen and fall away. It reminds me of the sad situation when people get stuck in a riptide. The panic and struggle is the problem when all you have to do is float.
@JamesClear The 4th step in Recovery is actually the process of taking personal inventory of resentments and anger It's much like taking inventory of a business the process takes a while, but the result is dropping the anchor and enjoying the scuba diving
@JamesClear What a powerful analogy! Letting go of anger and resentment sets you free to explore life's beauty.
