1 year ago, Indian authorities launched a severe crackdown in Punjab targeting Sikh activists associated with the organization Waris Punjab De and Bhai Amritpal Singh. Internet services statewide were suspended for 5 days. Fast forward one year, mass detentions occurred once again this weekend to stop a gathering in support of detained Sikh political prisoners. Among them, 10 Sikh political prisoners, including Bhai Amritpal Singh, have been held in Dibrugarh Jail, Assam, for the past year under the National Security Act (NSA). As NSA orders are valid for one year, today the Punjab government issued fresh orders, renewing the NSA on these Sikh detainees.

Yesterday, at Hardeep Singh Nijjar's funeral program, Moninder Singh gave a passionate speech celebrating Shaheedi and how the community must protect itself against foreign interference. He shared details on how Canadian authorities warned them of threats, but the police could not do anything about it. Moninder Singh emphasized that Sikhs are at a crossroads - do Sikhs go in hiding or strengthen Panthic advocacy.
