Philly’s government is so in thrall to development that it refuses to provide oversight of new construction, and now some of its poorest residents are losing their homes to irresponsible contractors. @samanthamelamed reports on the latest collapse. inquirer.com/news/philadelp…
@IngaSaffron @samanthamelamed @samanthamelamed this was a brilliantly written article. Do you think you can find out from the family if there’s a way to donate to them? I know it’s not your job, but that family has been through so much and I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to help. I couldn’t find any links
@IngaSaffron @samanthamelamed It's not that the govt is in thrall to development (that'd be awesome, we'd have more homes). It's that Council and the Mayor don't care to staff L&I. It's easier for them to do a photo op with victims than write legislation.
@IngaSaffron @samanthamelamed L&I, Council, Mayor are all corrupt its as old as the city itself
@IngaSaffron @samanthamelamed Read this article this morning and this is horrific for any family. Where is the oversight? Why does this company still have their license?
@IngaSaffron @samanthamelamed L&I inspection very limited?
@IngaSaffron @samanthamelamed Philly government is in thrall to development ? That is a completely laughable statement.. The reality is, the city is filled with row homes that are teetering on the edge of collapse. (There’s several hundred homes that collapse per year by themselves)
@IngaSaffron @samanthamelamed the new buildings too are, all around us, also falling down.
@IngaSaffron @samanthamelamed You're one of the biggest boosters for the developers, promoting zoning and building code deregulation, but that's what you get.
