The Ugly - vs USA I am almost, almost of the opinion a draw or a loss against Turkey would have made us better against the USA and Paraguay because we would have had to play to win. Matt Leckie is an all time great Socceroo with multiple consecutive years of fitness issues and at 35 years old has now fully transitioned to a CM/DM role - he hasn't played on a wing in 3 years. Nishan Velupillay at 25 years old was not in the Vuck best 11 at multiple points this past season, and he is somehow still treated like an exciting young talent instead of a man who should be in his prime. Starting both in the biggest game of our World Cup is entirely hubris and getting over-confident that everything you think is correct after beating Turkey with a month and a half lead in. As good as the prep was against Turkiye - we got everything wrong here and could not match their intensity over the first 25 minutes - we then changed nothing other than personnel swaps and for some reason expected change in the result.

The Good - Returning Players. We kind of forget in tournament mode, but Riley McGree coming off a fantastic club season as an additional option would have been unreal in possession. Lewis Miller as a secondary RWB would have been huge given how Italiano ended his tournament. We have had previous WC squads where a single injury loses us the tournament before it starts - we managed two potential starters out and then losing Leckie/Italiano in tournament and still should have won more games.

The Ugly - vs Egypt Egypt are the worst team we played this World Cup. They had 1 real chance that they scored from, which was because 4-5 players broke to a counter instead of being aware of a second ball. Second half we were all over them again - got a goal we deserved and then immediately went into hiding and let them back into it - again just horrific in game management for the third of 4 games. Yes, the Ref was shit but he impacted nothing of real note in the game. Taking off our attacking weapons to solidify extra midfielders and then complaining that it was "unlucky" in the post game - I actually don't mind Beach and Ryan not knowing about the penalty switch ahead of time, I see the sense in that and how knowing he would be coming off may have increased pressure on Beach. However, setting up to force penalties, having Beach literally keep us in it and then saving a sub to execute a plan that clearly wasn't still needed instead of calling an audible and saying, "No, he is playing out of skin" - again just horrific in game management for the third of 4 games and arrogance, which we will get to.

@AleaguesCentral Its even worse - for most of the game we were better and the either tucked back in or made changes that made us less dangerous or straight up more defensive. Its a World Cup knockout - if you can't play to win there you never will.
