They started the nonprofit journal @ImagingNeurosci & it's going great, writes @ShellaKeilholz for @statnews opinion statnews.com/2024/02/01/sci…
I am delighted to share that our work on #fNIRS #neurofeedback has finally been accepted for publication in one of the inaugural issues of @ImagingNeurosci – a superior and more sustainable successor to @NeuroImage_EiC for academic publishing. direct.mit.edu/imag/article/d…
📢📢New preprint We demonstrate that fNIRS-based neurofeedback is a feasible method to modulate right temporoparietal junction activity and functions with first evidence of neurophysiologically specific effects on stimulus-driven attention. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Thanks also to MIT Press. The process was remarkably efficient, providing an improved customer experience compared to Neuroimage, all at less than half the cost. It's encouraging to witness market pressure influencing positive changes within the academic publishing industry.
Cheers to @ImagingNeurosci 🥂 Had a wonderful time celebrating the continued success of the journal (+stealing escargot).
Can't wait! Come see us at #OHBM2023 at booth 204. We’ll have beautiful books by @perryzurn & @DaniSBassett, @fMRI_today, @PessoaBrain, & others. And please join us in the poster hall on Mon. at 5:15 for a cocktail reception welcoming @ImagingNeurosci to the Press! 🍸
Enormously gratifying to see the first batch of @ImagingNeurosci articles out in the world — and just in time for #OHBM2023 this weekend! Huge congrats to all the editors & authors. #OpenScience
Congratulations @ImagingNeurosci & @mitpress on publishing your first articles! direct.mit.edu/imag/online-ea… #openaccess
This puts us in the top 10% of linguistics, top 30% of exp. psychology & top half of neuroscience journals, many of which are by commercial publishers. We hope you agree our not-for-profit, open-access mission (& comparatively low APCs) is worth supporting with your next article!
id love to see a "what we learned" type article in a few more months, so others thinking of doing the same thing can know what worked and what didnt
Imaging Neuroscience @mitpress has hit the ground running - 50 papers already submitted. Huge thanks to these authors for their support in moving our field away from for-profit publishers.
In a significant move, the former editorial teams of Neuroimage and Neuroimage: Reports will lead the new MIT Press journal, delivering on the promise to lower APC fees. @ImagingNeurosci #OpenAccess #OA #Neuroscience mitpress.mit.edu/the-mit-press-…
@ImagingNeurosci I just sent a proposal to add @ImagingNeurosci to the Finnish national channel of publication classifications (JUFO @tsv_media). If they accept it, university libraries can start covering APC fees for Finnish researchers submitting their work to Imaging Neuroscience. @AvoinTiede
@JonathanShedler It's an interesting time for neuroscience. Article buries the lede slightly though: The board didn't just resign, they resigned *and started their own alternative journal* @ImagingNeurosci. It already has a website and 1,000 academics offering to peer review for it.
Great to see this science publishing revolution reported on the mainsteam media! Can’t wait for the launch of @ImagingNeurosci theguardian.com/science/2023/m…
Emma’s paper on HRV & amygdala-mPFC functional connectivity during emotion regulation was too far down the pipeline with Neuroimage to withdraw and resubmit to @ImagingNeurosci, and is now available sciencedirect.com/science/articl…. Next time!
New paper by Emma Tupitsa and co (ao @birthemacdonald @MichikoSakaki from @UniRdg_CINN ): biorxiv.org/content/10.110… where we examined HRV and amygdala-mPFC functional connectivity during a voluntary emotion regulation task in a sample of old and young adults

It's been over a week since this happened. I'm still waiting for the same thing from other journals. If you're an editor and not working on the a similar protest.. what are you doing? This spark needs to start a fire!
All NeuroImage and NeuroImage:Reports editors have resigned over the high publication fee, and are starting a new non-profit journal imaging-neuroscience.org This comes with great regret, and a huge amount of thought and discussion- please read announcement to get more details.
This is really great news, but I've seen a lot of commentary focusing on the fact that this is an Elsevier journal. All the big academic publishers are doing the same as Elsevier, let's not let them off the hook.

end of an era: 20 years of publishing in Neuroimage. looking forward to the next 20 years of pubs in @ImagingNeurosci pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=Seminowi…
@ImagingNeurosci Fully support the editorial board. @EmoryRadiology I will no longer submit to or review for NeuroImage. And I truly hope this can become a movement. Imaging Neuroscience is our mockingjay!
@ImagingNeurosci Bold and necessary move. I remember 2019, in the OHBM, when Golden OA was being announced for HBM and NI. While others were happy for Open Science (I was too), I couldn't stop wondering how we (at the time, I was still in Brazil) would be able to pay the 3000 USD APC.
@ImagingNeurosci Then I'll move as a reviewer too. No more reviewing for NeuroImage, and hello to reviewing for @ImagingNeurosci!
