FYI narcissism in women is expressed differently, and we tend to downplay or overlook these narcissistic traits due to societal expectations of women being nurturing and selfless. More often covert than overt, NPD in women looks different in 3 areas: 1. Manipulation techniques: gossip, passive-aggressive behavior, silent treatment, manipulating relationships to for self-gain or validation. Using physical/social charms as a way to gain power over others, infiltrate an elite group, or align themselves with people in power 2. Attention-seeking behaviors: by playing the role of the victim. Engaging in narcissistic martyrdom: a display of excessive self-sacrifice to gain accolades and validation 3. Parental approach: overly enmeshed with her children, viewing them as extensions of herself rather than independent beings, manipulating or leveraging children for manipulation techniques Reminder: Emotional abuse is any nonphysical behavior or attitude that is designed to control, subdue, punish, or isolate another person through the use of humiliation or fear.
@ImSpeaking13 My sister to a tee. My mother possibly but not to the degree of my sister. It is hard to have a relationship with my sister for sure. She loves to play the victim. Main reason I moved a state away from them.
@ImSpeaking13 What about mothers who are dealing with grown children who have it?
@ImSpeaking13 OMG … how do you know my ex so well? Uncanny.
@ImSpeaking13 @gemdrgn1_ My mother to a tee. Like “someone” else we all know, she is in the early stages of dementia making her narcacism and anger outbursts even more intense.
@ImSpeaking13 This fits my friend to a t, yass
@ImSpeaking13 I've seen it with the expression regarding the children. I haven't seen as much as the victim, but everyone around her is held to impossible standards of behavior; which I have failed as a mother and grandmother.
@ImSpeaking13 @sunshine_floats I see you've met my ex. :-p (She's actually a wonderful person as long as you are not a target of the abuse)
@ImSpeaking13 My sister ... hurt our parents terribly, then finished off with me since I was closer to them (emotionally and geographically).
