"South West Water fined £2.1m for pollution offences." That is the 161st time @SouthWestWaterhas been fined over the last 10 years, a total of £4,573,634. Fines don't work, something else needs to done. @NickFerrariLBC was right, time for jail. themoorlander.co.uk/south-west-wat…
@Feargal_Sharkey @Lynn_GT @NickFerrariLBC A far better solution would be to have mandatory limits for sewage release, tapering to zero in 10 years. Exceeding the limit in any year would result in a legally enforceable ban on distributing share dividends and bonuses for top management and directors.
@IanHQuayle @Feargal_Sharkey @Lynn_GT @NickFerrariLBC Ten years? Why not five years?
@IanHQuayle @Feargal_Sharkey @Lynn_GT @NickFerrariLBC I’m wondering if you have been drinking the water Ian. Sending a few individuals to jail will stop this abuse overnight. Grow a pair.
@IanHQuayle @Lynn_GT @NickFerrariLBC Dumping sewage "outside of exceptional situations", has been illegal since 1991.
@IanHQuayle @Feargal_Sharkey @Lynn_GT @NickFerrariLBC Ten years of sewage then. Would you be happy for this to happen in a river or sea near you?
@IanHQuayle @Zebraskindiva45 @Feargal_Sharkey @Lynn_GT @NickFerrariLBC When the companies fail why do they award bonuses? Why are dividends awarded when it's obvious that money needs to be reinvested into the infrastructure? Seems to me that they get rewarded for failure.
@IanHQuayle @Feargal_Sharkey @Lynn_GT @NickFerrariLBC jail will be the only thing that stops this
@IanHQuayle @Feargal_Sharkey @Lynn_GT @NickFerrariLBC I agree with the principle on no dividends/bonus while illegal sewage dumping is happening. There's no competition in the water market so state ownership or heavy regulation is necessary. I'd extend this to other industries which pollute and privatise profit and socialise costs.
