Having a sense of agency (the power/ability to make choices and act on them freely) is more important than improvement skills or resources or methods when it comes to making change happen. @HelenBevan What’s intriguing to me is how little robust intervention evidence there is on supporting agency in the workplace (or anyplace) we looked at this for community recently
@HelenBevan The second principle drummed in to me last millennium was ‘ask forgiveness not permission’. The first, of course, was ‘first, do no harm’. If we’re not teaching HCPs (that includes those with medical degrees) ethical agency from day one then…. Etc.
@HelenBevan What a wonderful illustration, Helen! love the look of readiness and a sense of empowerment 💪
@HelenBevan Do you think agency is a skill to build ( like capability) or an aspect of culture that does not dampen/ promotes the pre-existing agency people have?
@HelenBevan @HorizonsNHS Very interested in this chat… can anyone signpost me to linked research? Assume this also links to how we mobilise colleagues… @judestonenhs @emilyhopkinson1
