All of you need to stop writing fiction in the present tense.
Oh for the love of... write whatever you want, OF COURSE! But use your tenses purposefully. Realize the limitations and act accordingly. We can tell when you haven't thought about this. Sorry, but this is true.
Briefly: present tense limits perspective, slows pace, makes manipulation of time more difficult, etc. But if you know me at all you know that I thumb my nose at writing rules and that I (partly) kid here. Better advice: go buy a book and read it.
@HeidiPitlor Cancel her! She’s bullying emerging writers!! How dare you express an opinion about tense when you’ve been doing this for 30 years!
@HeidiPitlor “Stop writing in present tense,” says the mean lady with bad opinions and no control over my life.
@HeidiPitlor Cormac McCarthy wrote nearly all of Blood Meridian in present tense. But sure, you go ahead.
