On this day in 1917, 15,000 Canadian infantrymen stormed Vimy Ridge. For the first time in the war, all 4 Canadian divisions attacked together, displaying legendary acts of bravery and courage in the costly victory. Four Victoria Crosses were awarded that day. Over 3,500 Canadians were killed and another 7,000 were wounded in the battle, marking April 9th 1917 as the bloodiest day in Canadian history. Brigadier-General A.E. Ross: “In those few minutes, I witnessed the birth of a nation.” #VimyRidgeDay
@Harry__Faulkner What a powerful quote.
@Harry__Faulkner I’m sure none of the new immigrants appreciate these sacrifices.
@Harry__Faulkner Unless things change RADICALLY Canada is dead.
@Harry__Faulkner Sadly, they died for nothing. World War I was a meaningless and contrived war. It destroyed a generation of young men and broke countless families.
Thank you for sharing this. It's shameful what this country is becoming. Most Canadians could care less what was sacrificed to build what we have. Most Canadians have no idea of our history. And the ones that do want to replace and erase it. It's not inclusive enough for something. Canada was a country to be proud of!
@Harry__Faulkner Got to see the original of this beautiful painting in Ottawa once. Still haunts me.
@Harry__Faulkner My GF was there and survived. Then 7 months later he survived Passchendaele
