I’d also like liberal elites fixated on school closures to even briefly think through what would have happened if, upon entering office, Joe Biden had encouraged schools to reopen right away, months before vaccines were widely available at the very end of the 2020-21 school year.

@brianbeutler Biden did encourage schools to phase in opening upon taking office and most did. Those that didn’t were, in actuality, a very small number of outliers. That was the right call.
@Hammbear2024 I think he handled it well in a damn-near impossible situation, and the fact that vaccines didn’t become widely available til ~April 2021 meant the whole 2020-2021 school year was gonna be lost anyhow.
@brianbeutler Yes. My main point is that a huge portion of this was driven by 1. Outlier districts that did close entirely (see Arlington, VA and Montgomery County, MD) and which weren’t the norm.
@brianbeutler 2. People, including too many in the media, privileging their own views as well as those of cranks who told them what they wanted to hear.
@brianbeutler If you go back through and seek out some of the prominent angry parent accounts, most of them are just open that they’re either right wingers or anti-vaxxers (or both) now.
