Because everyone has different priorities. Kingsley Suamataia admitted that his Dad pushed Oregon hard, he was enamored by the bright lights of a big time school. Stanley Havili, Haloti Ngata, Jay Tufele, Xavier Sua'Filo, Penei Sewell, Ricky Heimuli, Cameron Latu, Junior Angilau, Siaki Ika, Helaman Casuga, Simi Fehoko, and many more. Frankly, it happens a lot in the Poly community, parents heavily influencing where their boy goes. I've seen it a lot over the years. Now with NIL, some kids will just take the highest bidders. Other kids, don't care if BYU is the church school. Gatlin Bair didn't grow up a BYU fan, he's a 5-star Wr at Oregon. He has no desire to come here. Same with Jaxon Dart. Not everyone thinks like you suggest
