📌 We're seeing plenty of footage of the devastation from Hurricane Otis of tourist areas and beachfront properties. But the working class neighborhoods and rural towns around Acapulco is where tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, have gone days without food, water, electricity, or any kind of acknowledgment or presence from local, state or federal government. On Friday, people came in to the tourist areas of Acapulco from these towns and neighborhoods blocking roads, holding signs, and protesting for basic supplies. The government of Mexico said on Thursday that 27 people have died, but widespread reports on social media seem to show that the number of dead and missing is most likely much greater than that--this may turn out to be one of the biggest tragedies in Mexico's history. Yet people don't seem to be aware at the moment. Juan sent this photo from where he was picking peaches in Fresno CA. On this day the temp reached 101°. His bag weighs about 50 pounds when full of fruit. He climbs up and down the ladder dozens of times a day to empty the bag into a big bin. #WeFeedYou #Calor

Abel's a truck driver in the Bakersfield CA area grape harvest. Once the grapes have been picked & packed, he & his team mate load the hundreds of boxes onto the trailer. Depending on the variety, the boxes easily weigh 20 pound each. The high this day was 106°. #WeFeedYou #Calor

Eduardo shared this video with us on Tuesday from where he was harvesting peppers in Bakersfield. This is hard work as workers spend their day bent over. It was 103° when he sent us this pic. The high that day was 109°. #WeFeedYou #CALOR

Lupe sent us this vid from where she's harvesting radishes in Oxnard CA, saying: I earn $1.60/box. Each box has 60 bunches. All piece rate workers are poorly paid. Hourly work wages goes up, but piece rate doesn’t increase, so it doesn’t barely amounts to anything. #WeFeedYou

By the way, Southwest blew $5.6 billion on stock buybacks in the past few years. They could have made investments in their services and infrastructure. They could have prepared for extreme weather events. But no. They decided to enrich their shareholders.
