This is an RTD stop. The closest signalized crosswalk is ⅓ mile away. A person would have to walk ⅔ mile out of their way and traverse numerous other intersections to simply cross the street. These crashes are a direct result of car-prioritization. 9news.com/article/traffi…
@GoingDutchDEN It’s also 4 lanes across plus a turn lane, with no protected median. The speed limit is 40, cars regularly drive 55 and faster there. Its not far (one intersection) from a spot where the road is 4 lanes in one direction, 3 in another.
@GoingDutchDEN And again if the driver remains on scene they will get a virtual pass unless they were drunk.
@GoingDutchDEN Notice use of passive voice: "leaves one dead"☹️😡 vs "pedestrian killed"
@GoingDutchDEN "The victim was not in a crosswalk when they were struck." When will the crash beat reporter ask, "where was the nearest crosswalk?"
@GoingDutchDEN This is extremely sad. Sincere condolences to the victim and their family Passive reporting like this by @9new of using auto-pedestrian in their heading & in the article is a narrative that just doesn't stop. It drives me nuts. Vulnerable continue to get killed & maimed.
@GoingDutchDEN Then it's a 1/3 of a mile away. It sucks, but living vs dying to save 8 minutes.
@GoingDutchDEN some traffic engineer had life implementation of frogger as life goal?
