Today, our water pump decided to give up. Great! 😩 So, we’ve had to purchase a replacement at the exhausting cost of £462.60 .This is a huge chunk of money taken away from the charity, but without the pump, we simply cannot access water , and that is the current situation on one of our sanctuaries. Not every dog starts life with love. Some are sick. Some are scared. Some are abandoned. Some have simply been forgotten. Every one of them deserves kindness. ❤️🐾

Little Leo is a trooper, disease picked off his siblings one by one despite the best veterinary care  He fought his way through it with an extraordinary will to live ❤️ I felt it when I first saw him all that time ago, already sick he held his little paw out as if to say "help us"

⚠️ This is difficult to write, but this is the reality of the work we do at Dogs on the Streets. Thursday night, I received a distress call from a vulnerable person whose dog urgently needed medical attention. When I asked what was wrong, I was told the dog had an open wound that had become infected with maggots. I was shocked. I was upset. And, honestly, I was angry. I asked why they hadn't contacted us sooner or sought urgent veterinary care. But the reality is that this was a highly vulnerable person living in poverty. Someone who was frightened, overwhelmed and didn't know where to turn. He wasn't asking for money. He was begging for help. And at that moment, there was only one thing I could think about: The dog needed help. The dog was unable to travel. The owner had no transport. We knew that finding a taxi or cab company willing to transport a seriously unwell dog would be almost impossible. So we contacted a veterinary practice that provides emergency visits to animals in their own homes. The vet arrived and, during the examination, was visibly shocked by the condition the dog was in. We were given options. One of those options was to sedate the dog and try to clean and treat the wound, which was infested with maggots. We said: Do everything you can. But very sadly, while the dog was sedated, he passed away. He was 13 years old. He had been his owner's companion for many years. And now, he was gone. We have arranged and paid for an independent cremation so that his owner can have his ashes returned to him. The total cost to the charity was £961.90 I know some people will be angry. I know some people will say: "Why didn't the owner get veterinary help sooner?" And yes, I am upset too. I wish he had reached out sooner. I wish this dog had been seen before he became so seriously ill. But I also know that sometimes people panic. Sometimes people don't know what to do. Sometimes they don't know where to turn. And when someone is highly vulnerable, living in poverty and struggling to cope, asking for help can feel impossible. By the time that call came through, we could not change what had already happened. But we could make sure this dog was not left to suffer. We could make sure a vet came to him. We could make sure everything possible was attempted. And when he passed away, we could make sure he was treated with dignity. This is the reality of Dogs on the Streets. We don't just help dogs. We support people who are vulnerable, frightened, isolated and often living in extreme poverty. We try to help before it reaches crisis point. But sometimes, despite everything we do, we are called when it is already too late. I am so sorry we couldn't save him. But we did everything we could. And he was not alone. Rest peacefully, Mr R , beautiful boy. 🐾🌈 Please, if you are struggling to care for your dog, reach out before it becomes an emergency. Don't be ashamed. Don't wait. Bear has leptospirosis which is a diseases that can come from rats and stagnant water etc. It has attacked his kidneys and liver etc. (2/6)

He’s been getting drips and IVs and force fed some tiny bits of food to keep him going. I was so worried this morning I was just splashing some water on his gums and nose to freshen him up like a boxer. I want him to know there is a reason to live (4/6)
