When people come out and say, "Fulani leaders should..." or "Fulani people should...", what exactly do they expect us to do? Are we even safe from these bandits? My brother-in-law was kidnapped in 2021 and held in Kainji Lake National Park until a ransom was paid for his release. Immediately after they were abducted, he heard the kidnappers saying that if they got hold of any Fulani among the captives, they would kill him instantly because a Fulani would know the terrain and could easily expose them if released. They also claimed that some Fulani had escaped with a large amount of money when they carried out the attack. It was a vehicle conveying cattle marketers, and because of the alertness of some of the passengers, the kidnappers lost the money. That loss, they said, was one of the reasons they vowed to kill any Fulani they got hold of. And yes, the kidnappers themselves were Fulani. Upon hearing this, my brother-in-law kept quiet and, when asked about his ethnicity, claimed to be Zarma. Fortunately, he is dark-skinned and does not have curled hair. He and the other captives were held for several days before their release. Whenever I talk about this, some people still say that we have no right to complain because it was done by "our people." When a Fulani is kidnapped or ki.lled, they dismiss it as an in-house matter and sometimes even celebrate it, claiming it is merely a fight between bandits. I eventually stopped talking about banditry and kidnapping because many people do not want to hear the truth. They don't consider ours cries and appeals to be genuine. And they don't believe tgat we also suffer from this menace. Instead of forming alliances and attack this head-on, they would rather hold their fellow citizens collectively responsible and then continue lamenting the insecurity around them. We are not ready to fight insecurity. If we were, we would know exactly who should be held accountable and pressured to act.

Government is the sole authority responsible for the security of the lives and properties of its citizens. People are not paying taxes just to increase the size of the government's purse. It's for infrastructural, economic and security development purposes. As citizens, we can only assist the government by sharing important and necessary information about suspicious movements or individuals. However, we cannot go after them ourselves when we do not possess the strength, coordination, and firepower that these enemies have. In many instances, even after someone reports a suspect and the person gets arrested, mediators step in and secure their release after collecting huge sums of money, using vague arguments to prove their innocence, or exploiting weaknesses within the system and people's greed for wealth. In the end, the suspect is freed, leaving the "good citizen" who reported them at their mercy. And as we all know, such people rarely forget. Cases like this have occurred and been documented in different places. If the government cannot protect the lives of those it expects to report suspicious movements or activities, how then does it expect them to play active roles in the fight against insecurity? If the government truly wishes to end insecurity, it knows the right channels to follow. Stop holding innocent citizens responsible for the actions of goddamned criminals simply because they share the same ethnicity, religion, region, or nationality. Allah hoyna tan!

I congratulate our father, Maj. Gen. Abubakar Adamu (Rtd.) and Alhaji @Abdulrahmanleme on the conferment of the titles of Muqadas and Madakin Gembu, respectively The turbaning of individuals in an emirate is an age-old tradition of recognising and appreciating their contributions to the growth and development of the emirate. Maj. Gen. Abubakar Adamu is, without doubt, an accomplished military officer who served this country with diligence and distinction. Beyond the military, he has continued to render valuable service on many occasions. He is a respected general and a philanthropist whose impact has been felt by many. Alhaji Abdulrahman Usman Leme is also an accomplished public servant, philanthropist, and community mobiliser. Both men, worthy sons of Gembu from the Raahaaji clan, have contributed immensely to the progress of their people. There could hardly be a more fitting way to honour their service and commitment. We pray that Allah grants them the wisdom, strength, and good health to discharge the responsibilities of their new titles diligently and to continue the good works for which they are known and celebrated. BREAKING: Governor Abdulrazaq has reversed his choice of Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki and announced the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State. Danladi, who hails from Kwara North, will contest the APC governorship ticket against other aspirants in the party’s primaries scheduled for today. Lol 😆
