Jesse Marsch believes it’s time for #ProRelForUSA in MLS. "I would like to see promotion-relegation. Because I think it just raises the stakes and gives so much hope to some of these smaller clubs.”
@reformussoccer So many people support the idea but offer no insight on how it will work. Not enough financial backing in MLS. Some semi-pro teams don’t even have their own stadium or ability to host MLS matches.
@FootytakesUsa Increased fan interest, solidarity payments, parachute payments and opportunity for promotion = more investment in the game. We have more soccer capable infrastructure than any other country on earth. We have more financial capacity than any other country on earth.
@reformussoccer @FootytakesUsa Increased fan interest is a hope. There are many people out there who don’t care for MLS and never will. If we just implemented pro/rel one day, people wouldn’t just magically care and sell out games all the time.
@MikeHolman_ @FootytakesUsa People who say promotion and relegation won't work because we don't have the widespread soccer culture as other countries, but never ask why soccer is so much more widespread popularity in other countries with promotion and relegation.
@reformussoccer @MikeHolman_ @FootytakesUsa you mean nations with 100 year old teams? local soccer clubs embedded into their very culture? if pro/rel doesn't even work in Mexico- a country where soccer is #1. What makes you think MLS would? If we had p/r smaller market teams like Fire and SJ would've dissolved by now.
