People really have no understanding of how this country works. The interstates were built by destroying Black communities (esp. in New Orleans) or specifically designed to keep public transit away from the suburbs so white people would not have to see or be around Black people

White people built the interstate off North Claiborne directly through a historically Black and THRIVING neighborhood. My mama was a little girl and grew up playing here. The interstate split the neighborhood in two and affects the economic opportunity of Black people to this day
@GeauxGabrielle It’s what happens when you don’t learn about American history in detail. They don’t know about “white flight”, Long Island being by the water isn’t on accident in NY. Man.
@GeauxGabrielle Not just in NO but in every major city, highways were built thru thriving black communities.
@GeauxGabrielle Yup, they did it in every city, from Detroit to Des Moines to Dallas. Worked in all those very different places but they each had the same story: Interstates built in (usually bustling) Black neighborhoods.
@GeauxGabrielle People avoid commuting through black areas because too many black people are violent criminal scumbags.
@GeauxGabrielle Is there evidence that they were specifically designed to keep white people from having to see or be around Black people?
@GeauxGabrielle @Parabellum2021 Yes, that makes sense. The entire interstate highway system was designed to hurt New Orleans.
@GeauxGabrielle You can make anything racist if you try hard enough
