Jordan Pickford grew up a Sunderland fan in Washington, Tyne and Wear, joined their academy at eight, and spent years being sent out on loan to clubs at every level of the English football pyramid just to get game time. By the time he was 22 he had played in all four professional leagues in England. Darlington in the National League at 17, then Burton Albion, Carlisle, Bradford, Preston. Week after week of grinding it out at grounds most people have never heard of. Sunderland were relegated. The club fell apart around him but he kept performing anyway. Everton signed him and he became the most expensive British goalkeeper ever at the time. A year later he was saving penalties at a World Cup. Now at 32 he is heading to his third World Cup as England's number one. Possibly the best keeper England's ever had... 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
