Hey hey the @PFJ_USA weekly video is out and you don't want to miss this one. Here's the deal: the fastest growing demographic in US prisons is also the group of people who are (1) most expensive to incarcerate and (2) least likely to commit crimes.
Decades of bad policy led us here. Mandatory minimums that take away a judge's ability to decide who deserves a lower sentence. "Truth in sentencing" laws that keep ppl in irrationally long and again strip discretion for early release prisonpolicy.org/blog/2023/08/0…
@GalvinAlmanza @PFJ_USA Thanks for this! Emily, please check RAPPCampaign.com for reports and posts showing how this affects NYS—and what some of us formerly incarcerated older folks are doing to correct the injustices. @RAPPcampaign
@GalvinAlmanza @SanhoTree @PFJ_USA We can’t make it make sense. It doesn’t and it’s awful.
@GalvinAlmanza @PFJ_USA $. They make $$$ (& save) thru legal slavery & contracts. Don't have to pay employees & sell produce harvested & products made by prison slavery. & by families having to buy food & hygiene from the prison store or they starve, lose too much weight bc they hardly feed them.
