@ptomolik @GeePawHill I see. So you think it's okay to break down a user story into smaller stories where the user could be someone else. Why is this "breaking down" different than "slicing"? Aren't they just aliases of each other?

@BartTheNiceGuy @bzbetty @GeePawHill Let's say it doesn't need any hooks. All the user cares about, is whether it got tweeted or not. Maybe they'll check their Twitter a week later. Would forcing a change in reqs, surely you a see a benefit in slicing by layers?

@bzbetty @GeePawHill I see. So are you saying that this valuable dependency, despite only requiring changes in a layer that doesn't involve any user action, is a "user story"? Would you still call this slicing vertical? Btw, the user doesn't care about retries. We do.

@bzbetty @GeePawHill Sure, let's say we don't ship it all in one story. Would the retry logic get its own story? Would that story not be a horizontal slice of some server-side framework layer?

@ptomolik @GeePawHill And there it is! "Having a log" is a story that is not vertical, but it makes sense to break the original requirement into pieces like that. So why is doing it this way a mistake?
