Am I missing something with this Offside malarkey! Whatever the rule is , their will always have to be a line drawn and a consistent point chosen for that line to come down on! It’s a red herring the offside when it comes to VAR. Just improve the fan experience in the stadium!
@GNev2 just do it like the rugby! They never will though because then the responsibility and big call falls back on the ref which leaves them open to ridicule and abuse (same reason they don't use the monitor) at least doing it the way they do everyone can direct their anger at VAR
@GNev2 TMO in rugby would have looked at Aguero offside tonight reversed it & given a penalty. Because they talk to each other & we all get to hear the conversation. VAR is trying to reinvent the wheel. Just use the technology like other sports do successfully.
@GNev2 Offside is offside. Players need to time their runs better. Why is it always the forward that gains the advantage I.e. offside, dives etc.
@GNev2 It’s very simple Gaz. VAR is awarding offside, moments that could be seen with the naked eye. So it’s changing the game. The moment you start getting lines out because you can’t tell which half inch of toe is on or off🤦🏻♂️ The onfield must stand if not clear and obviously wrong
@GNev2 Not necessarily. The conversation shouldn’t be about where the line needs to be, it should be about what circumstances we choose to use the line. Football fans have demonstrated that even when a decision is correct, VAR can be unsatisfying - even for the fans who benefit...
@GNev2 Should just let it be what it was and let the referee and linesmen make the decision. Just because the technology is there doesn’t mean it’s beneficial.
@GNev2 I actually think the rule as it stands now is fine. If your offside your offside!
@GNev2 Exactly. Instead of armpit offsides, we'll have armpit onsides. None of the controversy is resolved, really..
@GNev2 Offside rule is to stop the attacker gaining an unfair advantage. Armpits etc. are not in the spirit of the rule. Either make it clear and obvious or get rid of VAR
@GNev2 You could argue if the decision isn't wrong, in a clear and obvious manner it shouldn't be checked. As in with rugby, they don't draw geometric lines. If he's there or there abouts, they tend to allow it.
