100 Years of Lyme’s History – Ken Gollop More tales from Under Shady Tree, Ken shares the life of his grandfather, the last of the stoneboatmen. Covering the changes Frank saw, from sailing ships, the arrival of the railway and the changes in Lyme Regis as a seaside town.
Our next talk The Romance of the Letter Box – Tony Cross Discover the history of Britain’s iconic red post boxes, with a look at the different types still surviving today. Tony will also highlight Dorset’s oldest letterbox, dating from 1853 and still in daily use.
Our next illustrated Talk will be ‘Shipwrecks of Lyme Bay’ by Nigel Clarke, recounting the dramatic stories of vessels lost along the Jurassic Coast. All are most welcome. Woodmead Hall, Lyme Regis, Thursday 16th October at 2.30pm.
There is still much we don’t know about the life and work Lyme Regis palaeontologist, Mary Anning. In this talk, Tom will describe the latest research and introduce a different Mary Anning to the one known from her famous portrait. For further details, please see advert.

Our first talk of 2025 is by David Knapman on Thursday 6th February at 2.30pm. David is a local historian based at Axminster Heritage Centre. Entrance fee: Members £3; Visitors £5. NB Annual membership of Museum Friends: £8 single and £12 for family. (Join on the day!)

Ken Gollop will be giving an talk on ‘When the Yanks came to Lyme’ in recognition of the 80th anniversary of their arrival in November 1943. At that time US troops were secretly stationed throughout the SW in preparation for the D-Day landings in Normandy. Entry £4.
