hmm no I think these variable names are very descriptive actually and people are just dumb if they don't get it imo, these are the *correct* names we should use in public APIs to make people learn the *real* math, instead of reading multi-character variable names for children
okay for some reason some people didn't pick up on the fact that this previous tweet above was a joke, so I'd just like to clarify that it is, in fact, not my actual opinion I figured "variable names for children" would be out of character enough for people to tell but alas lol
@FreyaHolmer The reason the joke fell flat or was too ambiguous at least is that badly named variables lazily translated from math notation is still a problem.
@FreyaHolmer Those specific greek letters actually do convey so much implicit info that there's no way you could succinctly describe with explicit names, but I fear that would tend to go over most people's head, unfortunately. As a physicist I approve of the joke, and appreciate the effort
@FreyaHolmer I mean, if your program is understandable by children, that's a hell of a compliment, isn't it ?
@FreyaHolmer Poe's law Honestly, it's not your fault but we've been surprised by so many people in the past, you can't ever be sure...
