During the 2022 primary, elections officials mailed about 4 million ballots. Fewer than half (43%) found their way back. Now that voters are required to enroll every two years, the upside is a lot less waste and a much higher return rate. So far, 52% of 1.9M ballots are in.

I've created a new product that breaks down county turnout in number and percentage formats. This is useful for gauging partisan enthusiasm gaps and can indicate how down-ballot races may be affected. Especially useful for candidates, parties and media. freshtake.vote/2026P/countyda…

The first two days of statewide early voting are in the books, and Democrats lead Republicans in overall turnout by about 9400 ballots. Historically, the Monday after early voting begins has high GOP turnout, so we may see a change in lead tomorrow. Here's where things stand now.

Mail ballot requests are down massively from 2022. With just six days to go until the request deadline, only 1.8 million ballots have been mailed. Compare that with the more than 4 million ballots delivered four years ago.

The precinct map is bluer today. Roughly 150,000 ballots have been counted so far. For perspective, 1.7 million mail ballots were cast in the 2022 primary. So we’re still in the early stages with a long way to go. freshtake.vote/2026P/statemap…
