I don’t blame Sherman. He is doing all he canto bump revenue temporarily.
I have covered baseball and its economics since before the ‘94 strike — when it was close to passing the NFL model — and small markets have about a 10 percent chance every 10 years to win it all. A shiny new stadium is nothing but a band-aid. Four years from now it will be empty.
I admit I totally fell for AEG’s Tim Leiweke’s bullshit about the then Sprint Center 20 years ago: “I had a conversation with an NHL group…and they were ecstatic to hear about the vote. The NBA and NHL have gone on record that KC would go to the top of the list.” Still waiting.
@FlannyMLB Yes, the Royals made some serious noise in 2014-15. Since the strike of 1994, how many seasons has KC sported a .500 or better record? And a new stadium fixes this? Didn’t work in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, San Diego, etc.
In a way, I hope the vote passes, so I can watch those new stadium fans scratch their heads and wonder how the Royals or any small market failed to win it all. Also, that shiny new stadium will be drawing 8,000 a night three or four years from now until baseball changes.
Please explain why only one small market has won it all in 30 years in MLB. I assume you hate the fact small markets like Green Bay, KC, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, etc. compete for the big prize in the NFL because it is a level playing field.

@MillerDougJr @FlannyMLB Many people realize the Chiefs have already said they want to stay at Arrowhead. The Royals leaving the TSC only makes that even easier. They aren’t leaving. Stop being scared of the threats.

20 years later, NBA and NHL teams now consider T-Mobile center outdated.
According to @FlannyMLB this will help lead to an MLB Salary Cap so maybe all isn’t lost.
All options are on the table now and elections have consequences.

@cjkc_life09 @tappnfast @FlannyMLB KCI is a way different thing, though. They didn’t decide to plant an airport in the middle of an existing neighborhood. I get that people grouse about change but nothing about this stadium plan seemed logical, just felt like bully tactics.
@cjkc_life09 @tappnfast @FlannyMLB I personally love the Royals and the K and don’t believe all of the “crumbling concrete” scare tactics. If they insist on moving, they need to work directly with the community & not just expect that the KC community kowtow to Sherman’s whims. There’s a smarter way to do all this.
