If you were an 𝐚𝐰𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 teacher for at least 5 years, you will probably be a good administrator. If you were 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 teacher, you will likely not be a good administrator. And if you were 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 a teacher, please do NOT try to become an administrator.
@FixingEducation My friends who are still in the system tell me that the ineffective teachers become bad administrators then get “promoted” to become horrible department heads in the central office. It’s the “dance of the lemons”.
@FixingEducation Collaboration between those with teaching experience and those from different fields might foster innovative approaches to education. What are your thoughts on the importance of diverse experiences in educational leadership?
@FixingEducation Is the skill set needed to be a good teacher the same as that needed to be an administrator?
@FixingEducation How about admin always have to teach still at least one class …..
@FixingEducation Been an excellent teacher for 24 years but politics keeps me from being an administrator not abilities
@FixingEducation I think 5 years is waaaay too short. And I think being exposed to lots of good admin models is important.
@FixingEducation I feel like a lot of not good teachers become administrators
@FixingEducation And if you were a teacher for only 5 years, you probably don’t know what being “an awesome teacher” even is yet. Sorry, but if you don’t understand that, ask any teacher with 10+ years if they would describe their first 5 years as awesome teaching.
