I'm a big believer in run fast and break things... innovation and all of that -- however the hunters need to leave some gatherers back at the village to protect the nest so to speak. I'm all for turning over tools to folks as soon as is reasonable (ha ha define that) and trying things. I ran a workshop years ago titled "It's all about execution" trying to help our biz partners to stop over thinking and just get shit done. I totally hear you on the "system rigor ... at scale". Exactly. The firm I currently work for (privately held massive corp) has a lot at stake so we're being very cautious while also innovating and while that's "not my department" I'm watching all this evolve so fast I'm loving it. Been in Internet since the beginning of "the Web" -- so much more at stake now, and so much more is possible. Love what you're doing and thinking. Thanks for sharing.

It seems one issue is all customer segments are squeezing through the same AI capacity pipes. In the cargo world, for comparison, companies and govts move their stuff on ships and rails while tourists cause traffic jams on little side roads leading to amusement park entrances. With Claude and the other labs, tourists are riding along blocking the rails and shipping lanes with their “let’s make a funnier dog video for tick tock” as an engineer trying to push out the next major release. How do we solve for that?

Yeah, the entrenched defending their turf. I love the idea of “one way by design” even if it just a myth about early planetary explorers (sailing ships that only bright enough provisions to get there, not enough to get back). We’ve got to kick the crutches away to force change. Why? Because the pace and scale will be like none other and we can no longer rely on the old way of innovating. We have to break down the walls between marketing/sales and development (and everything in between has to be harshly viewed as “if you are not supporting the learning, creating, building mission you need to get out of the way”).

Love Aaron’s insights and watched some of the interviews posted from his road trip. Different solutions and opportunities (and challenges) exist for companies of different sizes and infra complexities. Mid-sized firms adding real value and who already have strong internal partnerships between the biz side and the dev side may be first to yield real learnings and advantages while smaller firms scramble for talent that isn’t just throwing random skills at directionless agents and while larger firms deal with their existing data complexity, more complex regulatory environments and frankly more at risk of getting it wrong. As a business person who has spent over 25 years in companies that have tech at their very core I’ve never been more excited about the opportunity for innovation. The biggest risk I see are from those executives who dig in against change to protect their turf or even worse those who blindly follow the guru of the moment instead of actually thinking. Those executives who can break down walls between their data (and know how to use it), their frontline sales/point of delivery of value to customers, and the devs building to support all of it have a once in a lifetime opportunity to really make a difference unimaginable just a few years ago. Exciting times. Watch out for the alligators.

The US has Stanford, MIT, CMU… and they all know each other. Europe? Not so much. Until now: Students move between labs, compete in the same challenges, start companies together. There’s a shared culture. Europe’s biggest problem in robotics isn’t talent. It’s that nobody connects the dots. ETH has a phenomenal robotics scene. So does TU Munich. EPFL. TU Delft. But a student in Lausanne has zero visibility into what’s being built in Eindhoven. There’s no equivalent of the American pipeline where university robotics feeds directly into a startup ecosystem. Until now, apparently. ESRA a network of 11 student robotics clubs across 8 European countries. ETH, EPFL, TUM, TU Delft, TU Wien, KTH, Polimi, the list goes on. They’re organizing joint hackathons, sharing access to compute and hardware, and basically building the connective tissue that European student robotics has been missing. The part I like most: this wasn’t some EU initiative or university admin project. The clubs built it themselves because they got tired of waiting. 2,500+ students, zero bureaucracy. I’ve long been a believer of the impacts and actions/reactions of where one sits on the abundance vs scarcity continuum and how it shapes ones thinking and ability (or capacity ?) to adapt. I firmly sit on the side of abundance and the power it can unleash. More people need to explore this for themselves.
