While I've seen a lot of Splatoon fans having a "eat the rich" mentality, it seems like none of them have anything against Pearl. If anything, we kind of praise her. Why is that you may ask ? Well I think there are quite a few reasons for that >🧵
One, the most obvious reason : Pearl is a good person Pearl is known to be generous, to care a lot about others and to be willing to spend money to help everyone. We see it when she's helping Eight in the metro, not hesitating a single second to help her out with money
(fun fact, she didn't ask for her to give it back. Cuttlefish did) We also see it with Marina, who lives with her (and probably has for years now) and who she took care of when she was an homeless teenager and very vulnerable.
Two, Pearl's personality isn't just money. We don't love Pearl because she's crazy rich, it's not her only characteristic. We love her because she's unhinged, because she's sweet and caring, because she's funny ... She's not Scrooge McDuck in squid form.
Of course, it would be stupid to deny that money plays an important part in her character. But ask anyone who isn't too familiar with Splatoon to describe pearl and I doubt that "rich" would be one of the first things to come to their mind
Three, Pearl is close the punk scene, and it seems that she grew up in this environment as a young adult. Punks are inherently linked to concepts like anticapitalism, anarchy (y'know, team chaos...), freedom of the individual and anticonformism. These describe pearl quite well
There is no way that she grew up in this scene without learning about these concepts and at least adhering to them in some way. The reason why she got into punk was most likely to express herself, meaning she probably went through some personal retrospective at some point.
