A wee observation that I’m making in the long grass grazing vs short grass grazing, in short grass grazing under the fence was always overgrazed. In tall grass grazing the opposite is true! You can make out the fence lines not from obviously stunted grass but from more litter

@FarmersOfTheUK @DefraGovUK Absolutely spot on, it’s totally designed for large land owners and encourages the destruction of good biodiversity to get payments to replace it with something not even half as good 🙄
If this had been the base of the new ELMs then farmers might have been more willing to get on board...
The support should be for existing environmental outcomes where the best habitats are rewarded the most, providing an incentive for people to move towards higher-quality land management over time. Not 'additionality'. If this income were available to the public sector...⬇️
