@SamMPigram I agree Sam, we've seen this with the administrators fire sale on Council land assets for pennies on the dollar. For instance a block on Thompson Vale Rd bought by the council in 2014 for 7 mill and sold for 5.5 mill in 2022 for a loss.
@Evanschreicc I thought it may be the case. About $30k per councillor. Administrators always looking to save money and not necessarily the best outcome for customers.
@SamMPigram The Central Coast Council is currently under administration and without an elected body. In March 2021 the administrator conducted a survey on this question. It had a response rate of under 0.17% of the central coast population. He then used this to push out a referendum.
@SamMPigram They will use the excuse of cost cutting what will amount to about 200k (despite the current administrator taking home a packet of 320k).
@ricketykate1 Over 1600 km2, that's geographically larger than Canberra. We have over 41 beaches spread over 80km of coastline.
@Evanschreicc One of the biggest council areas (geographically) in the state too and growing in population and new housing.
The Central Coast LGA is the 3rd largest in NSW, with a population of 346,000. To put that in perspective, the population of Iceland is 375,000, The Northern Territory is 251k. We need to ensure our extremely large population is equally taken care of. #Auspol2024 #CentralCoast
We cannot allow this to happen, it will increase the ratio of population to councillors by an extra 15,400 people. This is unsustainable and will result in the diminished link between the community and the local government.
In September this year the Central Coast will go to the polls not only to elect a new Council but also to vote on a local referendum on reducing the number of councillors from 15 to 9 and wards from 5 to 3. This will bring the Central Coast out of alignment of the rest of NSW.
We can do more to tackle the cost of living by working closely with state and territory governments. Our work on energy bill relief, social housing, fee-free TAFE and health is already making a difference. Together with Premier @RogerCookMLA we can achieve even more for WA.
