Example 3: Cube
In this final section, I'll show you all the essential techniques you need to animate a more complex shape.
In summary:
- Keyframe path
- Locate (and assign names to) the group layers
- Change the stacking order
- Reverse path direction if needed
- Use Set First Vertex option to change startingpoint
- Adjust drawing speed/timing with keyframes
Example 2: Shapes
The icon in this example consists of multiple shapes.
I'll show you how to use trim paths to draw each shape one by one, in a logical order.
Workflow Tip #1 👨🏻💻
Vector images (SVG files) offer higher quality than PNG/JPEGs and allow for more possibilities in making motion graphics.
However, importing them into After Effects requires a little workaround.
With 3 examples, I'll walk you through the essential techniques you need to import SVGs into After Effects and animate them with trim paths.

@editingbyian Yessir... Even with a degree in media, building a portfolio & personal brand is more important to get hired/clients. Trying to catch up on that myself now 😌
You do seem to be well on your way! Did you already want to make editing your career before you started studying?
@sevansukmedia Clean editing style, Sam!
I'm still in the process of putting together a style of my own, but this is very close as to what I have in mind 💡
Hope you'll feel better soon to get back at it, skill is not the problem at least ;)

1. Acquire footage or make an AI-generated video suitable for making the transition. I used Adobe Firefly.
2. Adjust the scale, position, and timing/speed of the video to match the footage beneath it. This AI video had differences in speed; with time-remapping, I made the tearing motion quicker.
3. Key out the background. A video with a consistent background can be keyed out for the most part. Make sure the background covers most of the screen to prevent unnecessary masking.
4. Create masks around areas that need to remain unaffected. Keyframe the position of the masks accordingly.
5. Add final touches to complete the look!

Battle prep for my editing freelancing journey! ⚒️
I updated my portfolio and freshly made X profile to cater to a larger audience beyond just my Dutch network in Amsterdam.
As a seasoned all-around editor, but newbie online salesman, I'm yet to define my niche when it comes to editing services.
I'd love to chat with interested parties — be it clients or fellow editors, and would invite those to come help shape this organically by collaborating with me on stunning AE & Premiere projects! 👇
If you have any questions for me, check out my profile and don't hesitate to reach out. Any comments or tips for improvement would of course be appreciated as well, cheers! ;)
