I kinda think its funny that everyone is riled up about a contract structure that has been implemented many, many times before. Sure, not to this extent, but it's nothing new. Max Scherzer literally didn't have a salary one year (a signing bonus IIRC, but no salary)
@EthanHullihen I was wondering about that. Can players receive a salary less than the league minimum? Judging by your Scherzer example I assume they must be able to.
@battling_bucs It was goofy, I'd have to look again at the specifics to be sure. But also, deferred salaries are attributed to years in the contract, just not paid, so he probably "had a salary" on the books, just not actually paid it.
@EthanHullihen That’s more along what I was wondering if deferred salaries counted. Was curious if a raise to the league min over the next decades could affect the Ohtani deal.
