Yes we read all these books while doing research before the movie. These didn’t make it into the Bible. Some are really whacky. We read The Apocrypha and The Dead Sea scrolls, etc while casting round for our plot, which was the boy next door, mistaken for a messiah twice.

@EricIdle In ancient Greece, attractive strangers passing though villages and small towns were sometimes mistaken for gods. Did you read any of the Jesus folklore?
@EricIdle I always found the gospels of Pilate to be quite entertaining.
@EricIdle Does it make you happy to mock Jesus Christ and His followers?
@EricIdle The first two laser discs (!) I bought were Last Temptation of Christ and Life of Brian. It’s a really great double bill!
@EricIdle Not apropos to this thread, but I'm in Kelso's Black Swan pub and look at what they've got hanging on the wall!
@EricIdle I love how the Pythons knew more about biblical history than many Christian historians. Reminds me of a few years ago. I am an atheist and my stepdad is a Christian Evangelical. We both took the same religion test and I (barely) outscored him.
@EricIdle The Book of Enoch has astronomical references which remind me of Brian on the spaceship (but only very slightly)
