Powering Communities: Expanding Reliable and Sustainable Energy Access ERITREA ― A major milestone in energy access for rural communities was achieved with the final interconnection of the Adi Keih 2×6 MVA substation to the national electricity grid. This critical upgrade delivered reliable power to around 100,000 people across 57 villages in the Adi Keih, Senafe, Mai Ayni, and Tsorona subzones, replacing costly standalone generation and significantly reducing fuel consumption. The transition supports cleaner, more sustainable, and more cost-efficient energy access. The positive effects are far-reaching. One University, 124 schools, serving over 50,000 students, now benefit from improved lighting and digital learning environments. 15 health facilities have reliable electricity to power essential medical equipment. This enables health facilities to perform emergency procedures, provide accurate diagnostic services, and maintain higher hygiene standards e.g., sterilizing tools, refrigerating vaccines, and ensuring clean water). Rural electrification has also created a more enabling environment for local small businesses, including metalworking shops, milling operations, tailoring enterprises, bakeries, and small-scale industries. Early signs suggest the potential for new employment opportunities and income growth, particularly for women and youth involved in energy based livelihoods. In rural areas, nearly 1,000 agricultural enterprises can now transition from diesel to electric water pumps, reducing fossil fuel usage, enabling more reliable irrigation systems, and promoting climate-friendly farming practices. Collectively, these gains support improved food security, strengthened rural livelihoods, and advance inclusive sustainable development in #Eritrea. The two leaders agreed to deepen and elevate the historical and brotherly ties of friendship and cooperation that exist between the two countries to a higher level. In this respect, President Isaias Afwerki and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi agreed on the launching of concrete programs in the sectors of marine resources, development of port infrastructure, and maritime transport within the overall economic, political and diplomatic frameworks and agreements reached in the past. The two leaders also discussed, in greater detail, the economic, political, diplomatic and security dimensions of developments and trends in the Red Sea, the Middle East, the Horn of Africa and other international matters of mutual interest. The meeting was attended by Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Aman Abdelwas’e, Chargé d’Affaires at the Eritrean Embassy in Egypt, as well as Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt. Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, subsequently discussed implementation details of the agendas outlined in the extensive consultations between the two Heads of State.
