My adult son works at the industry leading camera/lens company in Hollywood. He’s been there 5 years and has worked his way up to being a vital part of the team that works with camera crews and is now a member of his local 600 (camera union)
Back in APRIL they cut all overtime and went to 4 day workweeks limiting them to 30 hours a week and furloughed numerous teams. The studios have been starving working class employees in Hollywood much longer than it’s been covered by the press.
Our union coworkers-IATSE/TEAMSTERS/DGA-can make a good middle class income in this industry. That’s why I was so happy when my son joined. But MANY of them were hit hard economically by COVID and had only just begun to get their lives back when the studios shut us down again.
MOST of our union brothers and sisters have only worked a few days this year. Most if not all have their health coverage threatened. Their homes threatened. Their livelihood threatened. All because the corporate studios want to continue their theft of our craft.
@EmbryEthan My partner is also 600 and only worked a handful of days this year, lost his union health insurance this month bc he ran out of hours. Things started slowing way down last year.
@EmbryEthan @RachelSL I have been comparing the AMPTP's treatment of the WGA and SAG to Indentured Servitude. i was wrong. Let's call it what it is, and prostitution comes closer. The Writers and Actors have been getting screwed for years.
@EmbryEthan With only about 5% of SAG members making a Living Wage from acting these folks all have side gigs unless they have families supporting them. And the Studio are losing big time everyday they're not in production. It will bit them in a few months.
@EmbryEthan If the Teamsters strike against UPS is that enough to start a #GeneralStrike
@EmbryEthan This has all been incredibly eye opening. People sharing their residual checks that wouldn't buy a bag of apples, to these lay offs and CEOs getting raises.
@EmbryEthan Not sure what city or state he’s in, but yes this is correct. My last job in CA was in December of 2022. Have not been able to pick up a job since. I am not in camera department, but part of another one. It has been that bad here.
@EmbryEthan One year of those ceo mope’s salaries could cover so many folks’ healthcare. It is criminal.
