You can't just pop in and play any games on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series or Xbox One. You have to pop in the disc and install it to a HDD/SSD first even without a download. Only modern games you can pop in and play are on cart physical Switch 1 and 2 games that don't require downloads or aren't a keycard.

@RetroMonkey7 I just give you one example…there’s plenty of other examples of what can go wrong with digital games, digital stores & cloud-based accounts. Remember the “Cloud” is just a server somewhere in a datacenter; once you lose access to assets & services hosted on the “Cloud” it’s gone
@RetroMonkey7 Bought it as digital game on Xbox One but it’s locked and intertwined with my EA account, the EA account is hacked & without the account I can’t play it because EA forces a secondary login beside Xbox live. With physical games untied to an (Cloud-based) account this won’t happen

@RetroMonkey7 Another example is someone that hacked my account for a specific game (FIFA), I have a case at EA and EA hasn’t solved the problem in past few years. I can’t play Fifa on Xbox for that reason. EA just doesn’t care.
@RetroMonkey7 I respect ur opinion but disagree, you might be lucky, that doesn’t mean others haven’t lost access to their games, I personally have lost 2 accounts because they were hacked & lost access to the games I bought with those accounts and there’s also the problem of delisting games.
@RetroMonkey7 Creating copy of games you already own & “Emulation” are seperate topics & that’s not the “only” reason people want physical games, it’s about much more; when these greedy companies shut down servers you lose access to all your games, games you paid for, that’s called theft buddy
So even from a technical and business perspective it’s a poor decision. Add the concerns about ownership and Sony removing digital assets and closing entire stores…and you’ll understand this decision will backfire sooner or later…
No, but forcing All-Digital is a hard sell. Keep in mind in 60+ countries PS Store isn’t even available & many countries don’t have proper Internet Infrastructure, forget about high speed Internet & not all people can afford high cost of digital games & montly subscription fees.

Playstation 6 won’t sell 100+ million imo: No Disk is a hard sell to the core fan base who Sony needs for initial (~30-40 million) console sales. I personally was hyped about PS6 before this “all digital future news”, now less so…will wait for PS6 games to release on PC.
The actual test is when Sony shows PS6, the tech, features and the exclusives, if the console still has some cool features, cool controller with new tech and incredible exclusives (with generational leap) I think many Pro-Physical gamers will fail the test and still buy PS6.
