Your 'moment of doom' for Mar. 27, 2024 ~ P is for Pandora "The mutually-reinforcing relationship escalates global warming, the degradation of materials, plastic waste and the leaching of toxic chemicals into the biosphere." scitechdaily.com/global-warming…
@EliotJacobson Great news for planned obsolescence! We think of plastics as lasting ‘forever’. But it’s a chimera. The object is shedding and breaking down, but the micro particles will last ‘forever’. This is not widely known.
@EliotJacobson even if we could "get off the sauce" re: FF combustion, it still leaves the plastics problem– which no one seems to even think about. Our entire way of life; our technologies; our economy– right down to basic necessities of food, clothing, shelter– are all a synthetic sandcastle
@EliotJacobson We are where we are let's move on and try to live with it!
@EliotJacobson It's like everyone is rushing to be the first to break the latest bad news. Meanwhile, has anyone actually stopped consuming plastics, eating chemical food and stopped offshoring their emissions to China by not buying their crap?
@EliotJacobson I suppose we could always use less plastic 🤔
@EliotJacobson @MarkCranfield_ Definition of irony
@EliotJacobson They need to tax plastics out of profitability. Any country not playing ball we use tariffs against in old style protectionism. Plastics would be essentially gone from the supply chain in 5 years. - make it a think at the next IPCC conference.
@EliotJacobson @PlasticsRebel
@EliotJacobson Big Plastic know the properties of their products are precarious at best and dangerous at worst- yet they prefer to hide behind “waste management” strategies and fantasies of circularity in order to keep laundering fossil fuels
