@ElaineMcgreevy ESDIT (Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies) is a 10 year international research programme that includes AAC technology. esdit.nl This paper is a part of that project: AAC Technology, Autism, and the Empathic Turn tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
@ElaineMcgreevy @AutismBookClub I spent years communicating by writing and so many people would get cranky at me even angrily saying "I'm not reading that!" They saw my lack of speaking as proof I'm "stupid", "mentally ill", or incapable of looking after myself. I'm not any of those things. I'm just autistic.🙄
@ElaineMcgreevy Everyone deserves a voice. All of the words, all of the time!!!
@ElaineMcgreevy Do you know how hard it is to get an augmented device? I had to buy an iPad and I have downloaded a free app which we will need to pay for when he needs to move forward with it.
@ElaineMcgreevy @ChocToothpaste And still, staff in schools cannot access in-school training in how to support autistic students who use AAC. Or how to start using it in classes for autistic children. Are SLTs not universally on board with AAC? So many people seem not to have any idea what it is!
