It’s interesting how life decisions based on instinct could turn out to be prescient. Despite it being an obvious choice for me, I instinctively recoiled from pursuing an academic career. The system appeared designed to breed uniformity rather than free thought. And so it was.
@EinatWilf i realized that in the wake of 2000 and the atrocious (lethal) journalism of the "intifada" (really Oslo Jihad). from then on, no conversation had substance.
@EinatWilf During my physics PhD in late 90's I became intimately acquainted with the method of securing funding. I knew it was already screwed up and that was theoretical physics. The humanities were orders of magnitude worse.
@EinatWilf So you ended up in the Labour (aka Communist) Party of Israel, that's interesting. Perhaps Academia was to frevolous for you.
@EinatWilf The hasbara media ecosystem breeds even greater uniformity of thought without any redeeming qualities at all. In academia there are at least long semester breaks.
Agreed, growing up in Cambridge MA to two parents who had phDs and became teachers, my destiny was a career in Academia. But I felt something was off and rejected it. Now I have the most amazing career as a healer, make great money in a peaceful environment. Don’t have to worry about being cancelled, tenure, ideological bullshit
I personally didn't recoil from it, but took other options. Many times I've regreted that turning point in my life. Although it brought me family, wonderful children, & a significant, rich life, Jewish & otherwise, I always felt it could've been a good road to travel. Thank your for your honest thoughts on the matter.
@EinatWilf @EllaTravelsLove But you went into politics, the lowest of the low
