If the US is serious about protecting people’s data from ending up in the hands of foreign adversaries, Congress should toss out the TikTok ban and instead pass comprehensive data privacy legislation to prevent the collection of data in the first place. eff.org/deeplinks/2024…
@EFF I don't like to be the one to say this, but I suspect Congress is not 'serious' about protecting data. And it's a little too convenient to have a politically aligned vulture capitalist on the sidelines waiting to take over TicTok. It's almost as if the game is rigged...
@EFF I don’t think think it’s just about data privacy “In March 2022, 8 states, including CA and MA launched an investigation into whether TikTok causes physical or mental health harm to young people and what the company knew about its role in those harms.”
@EFF Would also like to see some anti trust laws put into effect on Social media, communication and Media companies . We can not ignore the damage being done by the few corporations who control everything we see and hear . 😎
@EFF Congress is not serious. They don't want to ban tiktok. They want Mnuchin and cronies to buy it so they can make money and spread right wing propaganda.
