@kvlly I think take home tests are good but they should be used as a discussion point not the sole testing mechanism.
Check that the candidate understood their code and can justify the reasons behind their choices.
Similar to PR reviews I suppose.
I was a CSS purest for so long and then finally caved and tried @tailwindcss…
I just can’t see myself going back anymore, Tailwind just saves so much time. Mind blown.
@nicolefranq I think, like in many fields, AI will help UX designers. It will also make UX design (and good design in general) more accessible to businesses that may not have the resources to hire a dedicated designer
@mattpocockuk I voted GitHub UI but honestly I do a mixture of that and IDE. I’ll review the code in the UI first but if I need more context I’ll jump into the IDE. I also run the code locally to test of course.
@dcoli@nsjames_ I’ve sometimes seen the opposite maybe because they had to spend time self learning, building their own syllabus and learning in the most efficient way. I don’t actually think one group is better than the other. We’re all developers, just took different paths to get here 🙂
@danielcranney Sadly enjoyment doesn’t pay the bills, or provide for your family.
I think it is important to have a job you enjoy but most people work for money. If companies stopped paying people I imagine they’d find their employees didn’t show up for work. I certainly wouldn’t.
@Jakeroid It’d depend on the use case for the front end project but I’d probably use something like @astrodotbuild as then it’d be fairly trivial to extend the project with any front end framework, like Vue.js
@jasonalba Depends on the type of programmer you want to be. I think math can help you understand some programming concepts, but for the most part I don’t think it is essential
@NanouuSymeon How can we know? Based on current trends I think it’s safe to say web development will be popular for a long time but we don’t know how the world will look in the future 🙂
@AliHussein_20 @dagorenouf I don’t think anyone is saying to write unmaintainable code. Simply that you don’t need to write perfect code especially at the expense of your users.
@andrew_buglelab@danielcranney Depends on the size of the job.
For smaller jobs hourly can work better. Larger projects fixed price can be better.
If a client requests extra work, using a hourly rate for that can be useful as well.
So really it depends 🙂
Day 62 of #100DaysOfCode
Spent the morning writing up a blog post about getting NextJS, TypeScript, tRPC and Prisma all working together and why you’d want to.
And a second blog post about scope in JavaScript.
So not as much coding today 😅
Day 60 of #100DaysOfCode
Took a break from building an app with @trpcio and opted to build the same app with @GraphQL along with @nexusgql to get a decent comparison. Both using @nextjs, @typescript and @prisma as well.
Hard to choose one this early but both have been fun!
