Lots of trauma survivors get this voice in our heads saying, "You're CHOOSING to be this way. You COULD choose to be JUST FINE, but you prefer playing the VICTIM for ATTENTION." Listen to me: trauma PHYSICALLY damages our nervous system. That voice is a SYMPTOM of that damage.
@DrDoyleSays You are so right! Self blame never helps with recovery.

@DrDoyleSays @HayleyMcGregor1 The ruminating thoughts are what really tear me down everyday. I wish they would just go away. (I have cPTSD)
@DrDoyleSays Also, trauma survivors do not want attention. Usually they want to be invisible.
@DrDoyleSays Can confirm. It feels like you’re about to have a heart attack.
@DrDoyleSays and sometimes that voice is reinforced because its literally coming from family members (who caused the trauma in the first place). I had a panic attack this morning where I couldn't breath & almost passed out. Family member cussed me out because I had to miss work.
@DrDoyleSays I need to find help for my son. His trauma definitely effects his nervous system.
@DrDoyleSays I never say that to myself, I know I don’t want to be this way… I tried to not be this way. My husband on the other hand always tells me I chose to be this way and I could chose to be fine and there’s no way of convincing him otherwise.
@DrDoyleSays Thank you Dr! This is such an important tweet. I can’t stress enough, I’m triggered often both here, fb especially and real life with ppl saying I can choose to be happy, can change my thinking! Fact is, I try and fake it, but it’s deeply ingrained the Cptsd, current trauma. ❤️🩹🫂
